7 in 7 Day Four: Wilderness Lodge
A day at Wilderness Lodge
Day Four of 7 Disney World Resorts in 7 Days is my favorite so far – Wilderness Lodge! I’ve always loved this resort, but spending the entire day here was enough to make it one of my favorites at Disney property.
Check out our 7 in 7 project home page to learn more about our tour and to see our previous days. Stick around for the next four days to see our reports for the rest of the seven resorts and see if you can guess where we’ll visit next!
In addition to our photos and blogs here, we filmed an overview videos at each resort. Here’s our Wilderness Lodge video below. Subscribe to our YouTube channel so you don’t miss out on any of our 7 in 7 videos!
“Nestled on the shores of Bay Lake,” Wilderness Lodge feels like a resort you would find in the Pacific Northwest. Between its location right on the water and the trees built up around the buildings, it really feels as though you are in the middle of the wilderness.
The lobby of Wilderness Lodge is nothing short of spectacular. With natural wood interiors and gigantic Native American-inspired light fixtures and totem poles, just stepping inside gives you a sense of adventure.
The smaller details inside really round out the rustic feeling with brass and wrought-iron detailing and mission style lamps and furniture.
Over in the lobby of the Villas at Wilderness Lodge, there are display cases full of railroad related accessories that both tie in the theme of westward expansion but also give a nod to Walt Disney’s love of trains.
Wilderness Lodge’s signature dining restaurant, Artist Point, is located in the main building high up in the back corner which offers amazing views of the grounds and Bay Lake. We were able to take a look during the day and I took this “Dining Plan Brochure” photo. I think they need more glasses on this table.
Along with a massive stonework fireplace and relaxing rocking chairs, one of the coolest features in the lobby is the active spring that flows water from inside the resort out to the pool area.
This is a perfect resort for taking walks outdoors. There are trails that run along the buildings and you can even rent bikes and surrey bikes to take around.
One of the coolest features outside this resort is the geyser that goes off on the hour, every hour, during the day. It’s a really cool sight to see and goes on for about two or three minutes. Just be careful when taking photos or videos because depending on the wind, the off spray can reach pretty far!
At Wilderness Lodge even the ducks get a hot tub.
“For some reason, ping-pong came very natural to me, so I started playing it all the time. I played ping-pong even when I didn’t have anyone to play ping-pong with.”
Because Wilderness Lodge is on Bay Lake, it’s really easy to just hop on the boats that run from Magic Kingdom and back, or a boat that will make the loop from all three Bay Lake resorts – Contemporary Resort, Fort Wilderness Campgrounds and Wilderness Lodge.
Here’s a shot I took while waiting for the boat to leave Magic Kingdom for its trip back to Wilderness Lodge.
