A day at Animal Kingdom Lodge
Well today is the last day of our 7 Disney World Resorts in 7 Days tour and we’re ending the week with the beautiful deluxe resort, Animal Kingdom Lodge! With its rooms and public areas facing the famous animal-filled savannah, it’s no wonder that Animal Kingdom Lodge is a favorite for so many people. We spent an entire day walking around and experiencing the resort and I could have used a full week to see all it had to offer.
Head on over to our 7 in 7 project home page to learn more about our tour and to see all six previous days: Port Orleans – French Quarter, Port Orleans – Riverside, Caribbean Beach, Wilderness Lodge, Pop Century and All Star Movies!
Similar to sections of nearby Animal Kingdom Park, Animal Kingdom Lodge has an African theme and is decorated with textures, materials, and artifacts that bring Africa to the resort. Even the signs around the resort have references to things like African animals.
The gigantic lobby is a little reminiscent of Wilderness Lodge, only in the way it is completely open and each floor has a section of exposed balcony overlooking the ground floor. Huge light fixtures that are made of African-inspired shields and spears hang over large seating areas with couches, chairs and accessories.
Another amazing feature of the Animal Kingdom Lodge lobby is the suspension bridge that spans the entire width of the lobby. You can get amazing views of the savannah through the back wall, which is made up entirely of windows decorated with a tree/vine sculpture.
You can also get great views of these cool, yet freaky, lighted statues of ostriches and other birds guarding huge glowing eggs.
Moving to the lower level of the Animal Kingdom Lodge lobby brings us to a place very dear to my heart. It’s here that you’ll find Boma and Jiko – two of my favorite restaurants. I mean ever, not just on property. I actually think that Boma is my favorite place to eat in the entire world. There’s also a cool water feature down here too, but who cares?
Below are just some of the beautiful textures, designs, and accessories you’ll find walking through the Animal Kingdom Lodge lobby. The combination of materials like metal, fabric, rope, natural wood, and even gold plating really create a rich environment.
The outdoor areas of Animal Kingdom Lodge may be the best of any resort on Disney property. You feel so immersed in the atmosphere that you forget that this is part of a hotel and not back in Animal Kingdom. There are multiple savannah viewing areas and even a flamingo pen.
There are some fantastic chances to view zebras, okapi and giraffes in the main savannah located off of the lobby. It also helps if you have some guy barking like a dog at them to come closer. Just kidding, no one would ever do this. Right, @OrlandoTiger?
The level of detail found inside the resort is definitely brought outside and the theming is just as amazing outside as it is inside.
