The Inaugural Give Kids the World Running Team

| April 20, 2013 | 1 Reply

At the beginning of 2011 the DIS began a mission to support Give Kids the World with our Power of 10 initiative.  The goal was to raise $1 million dollars by spreading the word about this fantastic charity.  Although goals are important, you’d have to agree that going above and beyond for this tremendous organization should be the priority.  Supporting charities isn’t necessarily about just donating money.  There are other methods of supporting charities.  Continue reading and let’s look at how you can contribute while at the same time becoming a healthier person.

Give Kids the World is a non-profit organization that sends children with life-threatening illnesses and their families to visit the Central Florida attractions.  Their 70-acre storybook resort in Kissimmee, FL sits in the middle of the many Central Florida attractions.  The DIS has played a big part in raising money so more children and their families can enjoy the resort and the surrounding attractions.  Now we have the opportunity to do something different.  We can join the ‘Run GKTW’ Team, a running team sponsored by Give Kids the World for the 2014 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend.

If you decide to join the ‘Run GKTW’ Team you must commit to raise money for the organization.  Most of the funds raised will go directly to sending children and their families to Central Florida.  GKTW is one of the highest rated charities in Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent evaluator of charities.  In 2012, for each dollar spent by GKTW, approximately 92 cents went directly towards fulfilling the mission of the organization.

If you are up for the challenge you need to raise $3,000 by December 31st, 2013.  You’ll receive a personal fundraising page, tools, and the support you need to raise your funds.  There will be prizes awarded including an all-expenses paid trip to the 2015 Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend.  In addition, you’ll get a complimentary registration for the November, 2nd 2013 GKTW Gingerbread Run in Kissimmee, FL.

In exchange for joining the ‘Run GKTW’ Team and meeting the fundraising requirements, you’ll receive these exciting benefits:

  • Guaranteed Race entry – Even if races are sold out
  • Ground transportation to and from the airport
  • Three-nights accommodations at the Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin Resort
  • A one-day, one-park Disney theme park ticket
  • Hotel transportation to and from race events via Disney transportation
  • A ‘Run GKTW’ Under Armour team shirt to wear for race day
  • Friday evening team dinner hosted at Give Kids the World Village
  • Transportation to and from Give Kids the World events
  • Optional volunteer experience at Give Kids the World Village
  • A network of teammates to offer support, motivation, and friendship
  • An invitation to join the ‘Run GKTW’ team Facebook page
  • A keepsake souvenir for all participants

If you wish to sign-up go to and click ‘Register’ at the top of the page.  During the registration process you’ll build your personal fundraising page and sign-up for the Walt Disney World half or full marathon.  In order to join the “Run GKTW” Team you must register at their site.  Do not register for these races on the runDisney website.

They say heroes are made by saving lives or helping those in need.  What better way to become a hero by joining the ‘Run GKTW’ Team.  Not only will you be helping yourself stay fit and healthy, but you’ll be sending children with life-threatening illnesses to Central Florida for the time of their lives.  It’s a win-win situation for everybody involved.
