As a part of Disney Parks’ Limited Time Magic celebration, Star Wars fans are flocking to Disney’s Hollywood Studios today for May the Fourth Be with You, a fan-proclaimed “Star Wars Day” celebrating the films, culture, and outer space phenomenon that brought Jedis, Chewbacca, and others into our world. In true Disney fashion, specialty merchandise has been released in honor of today. And, not being a Star Wars aficionado myself, I have to admit that I found some of the items pretty neat. Here’s a look at what’s in store.

Separate from the traditional Star Wars Weekend events beginning May 17th, May the Fourth Be with You is a one-day celebration featuring special character experiences, a dance party, Star Wars themed fireworks, and my personal favorite, commemorative merchandise. Pins and t-shirts featuring your favorite characters – with a space-age twist – are flying off the shelves.

Disney Design Group partnered with artist Tommy Lee Edwards when creating the items. Edwards, who is best known for his comics, books, and style guides for fan favorites such as Batman, Star Trek, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Men in Black II, and more, combined Star Wars with Disney in designing the shirts.

In addition to shirts, Disney Design Group artist Mike Sullivan fashioned limited quantity pins featuring similar artwork. Each pin has an edition size of 1,500, so these are sure to sell out quickly.

If you happen to be in the area, the May the Fourth Be with You celebration can be found in Disney’s Hollywood Studios through this evening; merchandise is currently being sold at Superstar Shop next to The American Idol Experience attraction. Those on the west coast can also get their hands on the items by visiting Disney’s Pin Traders in Downtown Disney and Little Green Men Store Command in Disneyland Park. Note that wristbands are being distributed for guests seeking the pins at the Disneyland Resort.
