Vera Bradley’s Disney Collection Hits Stores at Walt Disney World

This weekend brings with it a special merchandising milestone at Walt Disney World: the official debut of Vera Bradley’s Disney collection. The line of bags which includes backpacks, hipsters, duffels, and more is the first collaboration between the two companies and has been highly anticipated by thousands around the globe. In fact, when we first brought you the breaking news back in March, it quickly spread across the World Wide Web faster than anyone could have ever imagined. To help celebrate the bags’ release tomorrow at Downtown Disney, Founder Barbara Bradley Baekgaard and Disney Merchandise Group’s Steven Miller took the time to share their thoughts and excitement for the new collection this morning at the World of Disney.

Combining feminine grace and Disney charm, the new bags feature Mickey and Minnie in two bold patterns, “Just Mousing Around” and “Midnight with Mickey,”  both of which can be found in a variety of styles. The first includes pinks, purples, yellows, and blues; the famous duo can be seen frolicking through the floral design and paisley print. The other pattern has a dark background and is dressier, in my opinion, and is perfect for a nighttime stroll. Bradley commented that selecting the two characters that Disney is best known for made sense when designing the first patterns for the line. “Our biggest challenge was editing it. We had so many things we loved that editing the patterns and colors [became difficult],” she explained. Bradley also mentioned that original design possibilities included a castle, among others.

As the Merchandise Communications Manager for Disney Parks, Steven Miller acknowledged how popular Vera Bradley tote bags and backpacks have become in Walt Disney World over the years. According to him, it was only a matter of time before the two brands joined together. “If you go to the parks, you’re going to see that guests are using Vera Bradley bags and accessories during their Disney Parks’ vacations so by infusing a splash of Disney it seemed like it made a really nice natural partnership,” he said. Because the collection will only be available for purchase at Disney theme parks and Disney Shopping Online, Miller feels that this makes it that much more unique.

If you happen to be nearby, guests are invited to a release party tomorrow, September 21, beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the World of Disney. Bradley will be greeting fans who purchase an item and receive one of the limited wristbands that will be available; the meet-and-greet begins at 8 a.m. and will end at 9:30. Due to the popularity of the new collection and expected attendance, parking at the Downtown Disney Marketplace will start at 3 a.m. and guests may form a line from 4 a.m. on. It is at this time that wristbands will be distributed. Purchases will be limited to one of each style in each of the two patterns through this weekend and increase to two of each style beginning Monday, September 23. I expect that Tren-D, the Emporium, and Uptown Jewelers will have the line for sale by next week. The bags will also be available at Disneyland on that day.

All in all, I’m very excited for Vera Bradley’s Disney collection. I think it is a great way to merge together two outstanding brands that many have come to know and love. Not surprisingly, whispers of the next Vera Disney pattern have already begun, and I am eager to see what the future holds. Miller joked that he’d like to see a Disney Parks related pattern – perhaps something Tiki Room related – and I think that incorporating theme park imagery would be a fantastic idea. Keep your fingers crossed! The sky is the limit!

Love the Bradly Collection. I bought a Minnie Mouse Red Polka Dot purse while in Disney in August and have gotten so many complements on it. It is also the first purse I haven’t said I hated within a week. LOL I can’t wait to get something in the Bradly line. They are just so colorful and happy!!

I don’t generally care for the quilted Vera look but I will be given that a second look-chance with these new patterns…and would be even more likely with some park themed prints!
