FastPass+ Test at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Disney’s Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World started a test of the FastPass+ today. Offsite and onsite guests will be able to make their FastPass+ selections at kiosks throughout the park.  This is the first test where offsite guests to Walt Disney World are able to participate.



As you show your ticket, parking pass, or MagicBand at the Auto Plaza, you were handed a flyer explaining the test. If you arrive by bus you will not receive this flyer.

The traditional FastPass machines are covered up and you will not be able to get a paper FastPass. The FastPass+ kiosks are located at

I tried two different locations today and it went very quick.  In fact, it went much quicker than I thought it would.  I didn’t go at rope drop but went around 1 PM to try out the FastPass+.

I first stopped at Disney Outfitters. There were several cast members and guest services cast members standing there to help.  You first tap your ticket if you don’t have a MagicBand to the reader. You can add family members to your selections.




You are presented with a list of all the FastPass+ experiences



You must pick 3 selections.  You can always visit a kiosk to change them if you like but you can’t just select 1 or 2. It is only for Animal Kingdom so there is no park hopping with this system. It was nice to see that there were no “tier” fast passes.  You could pick 3 of the most popular attractions if you like.  At this location there are 2 kiosks and several cast members with hand held ipads where you could make your selections.




When you are done, you can take a picture with your smartphone, digital camera to remember what time your FastPass+ ride times are. You also have the option of emailing the details to yourself.  I didn’t check my email in the park but the email was waiting for me from Disney Destinations when I got home.

After I was done at this location I decided to try changing one of them. I went over to the kiosk area at Kilimanjaro Safari. Again the kiosks were covered up and there were cast members in teal shirts asking how they could help.  You tapped your ticket to the reader on the back of their ipad. It brought up the FastPass+ selections you had made and they ask which one you would like to change.




I found this test to be just as easy if not easier than running around the park trying to get the paper fastpasses. The cast members were very helpful and suggested at each location to take a picture of my selections. There is a drawback to waiting to get to the park to get your fastpasses because the time or the attraction you want may not be available.  On the other hand, offsite guests can now participate at this park only to get their 3 fastpass+ selections.

Since this is only a test, time will tell how Disney refines the details but I was impressed with how quick and easy it was. I have heard a lot of comments that this is a bad time of year to test.  I think it is the perfect time to try this out for all the guests to the park.  If you are new to the fastpass system this won’t be any harder than getting the paper fastpass. If you aren’t familiar with computers you might have a problem. I like the fact that I didn’t have to run all over the park to get my fastpasses.

    My objection to Fast Pass+ is the limit of 3 per day and one park only. I’m a park hopper and use lots of Fast Passes. Particularly for Soarin’.

      That is a disappointment for me, too. I never use three FastPasses at one park. I usually start out at one, get one there and hop to another and get one there.

    I have a lot of issues with Fast Pass +, I don’t mind that its 3 a day but if you lose one you should be able to sort of BANK your fast pass, not just lose it. Fast passes should be allocated the same as dining plan credits. If I want to use all my credits in Fantasy Land I should be able to.

    I would prefer to be able to pick my fast passes for one ride in a park. When my family would go to Magic Kingdom, we would get fast passes for Buzz Light Year, and then when we were able to get new fast passes, get Buzz fast passes again. We too are park hoppers, and this system will eliminate wanting to go to the Magic Kingdom after we have visited other parks during the early part of the day.

    I had a great time using MagicBands and FP+ two weeks ago. Everything worked without issue. One time when I Epcot I was thinking about changing one of my FP+s, but the app wouldn’t load for some reason. I chalked it up to a technical error and moved on with having a good time. :)
