2014 Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival opens in Epcot

The 2014 Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival opened today March 5, 2014.  It runs through May 18, 2014. I love this time of year at Epcot. If not my all time favorite event, then it is tied with the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival. DSC_1789

The last few years I was disappointed in the flowers and the displays, because compared to years ago it seemed there was less to see.  I am thrilled to say that this year they have upped their game!  There are more flowers and displays and the addition of the Outdoor Kitchens was a great decision.  The park looks so beautiful during the festival. I love how the flower beds change overnight.  It was just an ordinary flower bed the other day and now there are these beautiful topiaries in the flower beds. There are 21 topiaries through the park.  New this year is Spring is in the Air!, Kermit the Frog & Miss Piggy, Soccer Goofy, and Mike and Sulley’s Monstrous Garden.

One day this area looked like this

The next day it looked like this!

Be sure to bring your camera to capture lots of ideas for your home gardens. The new Gardener’s Palette in Future World will give you plenty of ideas for your seasonal garden.

The Outdoor Food Kitchens were a great addition to the event. There are 11 stations so you can dine your way away the World Showcase. The new one this year is Urban Farm Eats with some of the items being grown in the Epcot greenhouses.

This was in Mexico.

This was from the Lotus House in China.

I enjoyed this watermelon salad from the Florida Fresh kitchen. It was very refreshing.

The high point for the six of us touring the parks was this little beauty.  It is the “Piggylicious” Bacon Cupcake with Maple Frosting and Pretzel Crunch. You wouldn’t think the tastes would go together but they compliment each other nicely.  I think this is my favorite for 2014.

This is the Dole whip with rum.

We didn’t have a bad meal at any of the kitchens that we stopped at so save your appetite and eat your way around the World Showcase.

Ok, back to the flowers.

The orchid display in Mexico is much larger than previous years. Take a little time and walk along the path and enjoy the beautiful orchids.

Did you notice if you line up Snow White with the fire torch it looks like she has a crown on her head?

Also leave some time to explore Tinker Bell’s Butterfly House.  Please don’t grab the butterflies as they are flying around. Use the time to teach your children to observe but not harm these beautiful creatures. Take some time to enjoy them as they flitter around.

It was a beautiful day to be in Epcot.  This event is great because every time you go back you will see something new.  I want to thank Walt Disney World and Epcot for improving this already great event!! Our team has taken hundreds of pictures and lots of videos of this event which we will be posting soon, so stay tuned for more!  I can’t wait to go back.  Have you been to this event?  What is your favorite part?  See you in the parks!

I’ll be there on the 15th of March, haven’t been to the festival since 2001. I’m super excited about these outdoor food kitchens. Good food is always a plus!
