Festival of the Lion King reopens at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Today was an exciting day at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.  The Festival of the Lion King has reopened in a new building in the Harambe area. The show building is located behind the Tusker House restaurant.

I felt right at home in this new area.  It reminds me so much of the area in Africa I used to live in. This area is so full of theming that you really can forget you are in the middle of a theme park. I took some time before I went to the show to check everything out.

There is a standby queue for Festival of the Lion King. They let this line into the theater about 10 mins before the show and after the people in the FastPass line have already entered. If you want to sit in a certain area I suggest getting a FastPass for everyone in your party.

Be sure to look up and around as you are going through the queue area.  There are lots of signs and decorations to look at. Don’t forget to look at the posters on the walls.  You might see a familiar name or two.

Please listen to the announcements when you are in the theater.  Flash photography is allowed!  You may also use your video camera. They do ask that you have no lights on with the video camera and to dim the display.  I was “schooled” by someone sitting in front of me when I took a flash picture. Just keep in mind that this is a dimly lit area.  If you don’t have a camera that works well in low light just put your camera down and enjoy the show.  Remember your flash is only good for about 10 feet, so if you are any further away all you are doing is lighting up your area.

Just in case you were wondering if there were bathrooms in the area, here is the ladies room.

Walt Disney World didn’t forget to put in a gift shop for all your plush animals and other items.

If you get the chance, you should go check out this new area in Animal Kingdom. Congratulations once again to Disney for making a beautiful new area to see and enjoy!!  See you in the parks!

Thanks for the review! It’s our favorite show and we were worried it wouldn’t be open when we come in two weeks. The pictures are awesome!

We were wondering how they would fold the entrance que to this into Africa and it looks great; like its always belonged there. So nice to have this show back again.

I loved the review and all the beautiful photos. I can’t wait to check out the new theater on our next visit.

As usual, a well-written piece with great pictures of an attraction that has wowed me over, more than once! Thank you, Kathy!

flash photography being allowed is the main reason I won’t be seeing this show again. All I saw the first and only time I went was flashflashflashflashflash. As someone who gets migraines from overly repetitive flashing lights, I couldn’t take it. I won’t even demand they change it but knowing that its allowed now (I didn’t know when I first sat down) I’ll just avoid it.

Look forward to seeing the updated map! Any news on a new AK parade?

Have they changed the show at all, or is it the same show they have had for the past years?
