Disneyland Park celebrated its 59th Birthday yesterday with a little bit of fanfare, a whole lot of confetti, and a small…make that VERY small..teaser of what’s to come for the 60th.
Upon entering the Park, guests were greeted by Cast Members wearing fancy birthday buttons. Inside the Park, guests were invited to pose and take pictures behind larger representations of the buttons.
The ceremony itself took place in Town Square. After a brief welcome by the Mayor, the Dapper Dans took the stage to share several familiar (It’s a Small World) and not so familiar (Miracles From Molecules) tunes.
The Mayor then invited 59 of his friends to join him in the celebration. Mickey Mouse led the way as many favorite, and some seldom seen, characters paraded into Town Square.
As Walt Disney’s dedication speech was replayed, Goofy showed the utmost respect.
The ceremony continued with a rousing rendition of Happy Birthday To You, a dance number and lots of confetti.
The Mayor then revealed the logo for next year’s Diamond Celebration and announced a photo contest.
Guests are invited to share their Disneyland photos on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #Disneyland60Contest between now and August 27th. Include the decade your photo was taken, as winners will be announced from each decade. Visit the official site for complete rules.
What wasn’t included in yesterday’s ceremony was any confirmation of the new fireworks show or parade that are expected for the 60th Diamond Celebration. While I have it on good authority that Disneyland will be receiving its own version of Hong Kong’s Paint The Night parade (DIS Unplugged: Disneyland Edition 03/13/14), I would’ve loved confirmation…or at least a hint.
The fun begins “Spring 2015”, so stay tuned.
