School days, school days
Dear old Golden Rule days
‘Reading and ‘riting and ‘rithmetic
Taught to the tune of the hick’ry stick!
It’s that time of year again! Back to school is upon us! While many districts across the country returned a few weeks ago, most schools in the upper tri-state area on the East Coast begin classes right after Labor Day. There’s no better way to add a bit of fun to your classroom, child’s supplies, or home office than picking up some of the new merchandise Disney has to offer. I took a stroll through The Emporium on Main Street USA in search for a few things that would help me celebrate the new school season.
Before I continue, I need to give a bit of a warning: I’m a sucker for new school supplies. There’s nothing better than a brand new pencils…notebooks…folders…crayons…oh my! I just can’t get enough of it and am frequently found perusing the sales early in the summer for those “just right” items. Combine that with my love of all things Disney, and I’m a happy girl. This year, I was pleased with what merchandise was available in stores at Walt Disney World. Granted, not all of it is new per-say – pencils, pens, and sticky notes are a regular staple on the shelves – there are several items that really caught my eye.
No matter how worn or pristine a backpack may be, it’s always fun to shop for a new one in the fall. I remember hunting for the perfect style and color when I was in school. Now-a-days, there’s so many more options! Disney Merchandise has released a variety of backpacks for both boys and girls. I love the Buzz Lightyear one!
To complement the new bag, consider one of these fun beverage containers. You can find them in a variety of sizes and themes. My personal favorite is the plain colored Mickey water bottle. It comes in several different colors and fits perfectly in a lunchbox.
Pencils, Pens, & Crayons
Every time I visit Walt Disney World, I have to pick up a package of pencils. They make getting through a busy work day a lot more manageable! You can find pencils (or pens) themed to the parks, specific movies, characters, and more. Surprisingly enough, they are of a good quality and, dare I say it, rival my beloved Ticonderoga. The pens can be hit or miss in terms of quality depending on what you purchase. Still, the majority are a lot of fun if even to just display in a pencil cup on your desk. Disney also has some fun twistable crayons for the kids.
Once you have something to write with, you need a place to store it. I tend to use one of the many ceramic mugs you can find in the parks. However, school-aged kids will need something that’s a bit more portable. Disney has really increased the amount of pencil cases they sell in stores. Many of them have multiple compartments to hold other items like erasers and pencil sharpeners. Some even have a built-in calendar!
I am probably the most excited to tell you about the new line of erasers out on the shelves. There’s three distinct types: regular four packs, mystery EARaser blind packs, and extra large sized eraser figures. The latter had me squealing in the stores! They are so fun to display on a desk (these will NOT be used in my house).
You can also find these awesome bookmarks and sticky notes featuring several classic characters and icons. Similarly, there’s also a few styles of Disney Duct Tape to help you design your own creations! I love the old style Minnie print!
Whether you’re looking to add a bit of pixie dust to your child’s school day or home office, these items are sure to be a hit. While the bulk of them are available year round, the backpacks can be difficult to find as we move toward the winter months. I hope you enjoyed taking a look at what Disney has to offer. What’s your favorite?
