Handbag Round Up: Dooney & Bourke, Vera Bradley, & LeSportsac

| September 19, 2014 | 4 Replies

Wow! Disney has been busy! Several new styles of handbags are appearing on shelves and in the hands of some very happy ladies. Dooney & Bourke, Vera Bradley, and LeSportsac have all added to their Disney collections recently. If you’re like me, making a decision on which to buy is going to be difficult, so I thought rounding up the details would help. Here’s a look at what is now available for my fellow designer bag friends.

Handbag Round Up

Dooney & Bourke

Dooney & Bourke is one of my favorite handbag designers. Ever since the original Disney sketch tote, I have been completely hooked. However, the past few styles of Disney bags were disappointing. The colors and themes just did not appeal to me. Okay, let me be fully honest here. One did, but not enough for me to shell out several hundred dollars.

Because of this, I was extremely happy to learn of the new Food & Wine Festival Dooney that will hit the shelves September 29. The colorful pattern features Chef Mickey mixing up his favorite concoctions. The bag’s base is black and the handle features a leather tag using this year’s festival logo. This is the first Dooney themed to the event; I can imagine that it will be extremely popular.

If you’re interested, the Food & Wine pattern is available in several styles:

Tote – $278.00

Satchel – $268.00

Crossbody – $198.00

Wristlet – $98.00

The bags will be available at the official Festival Center in Epcot. It is located between the Universe of Energy and Mission: SPACE pavilions in Future World. I suggest arriving early and heading straight there if you are planning a purchase. This one will sell quickly!

Vera Bradley

Just a year ago this month, Vera Bradley revealed its partnership with Disney Design Group and collection of floral quilted handbags and accessories for women and girls alike. The line has been incredibly successful and grown in variety since the original release. Starting today, guests can find the Disney Dreaming collection of Vera bags at Cherry Tree Lane in Downtown Disney’s Marketplace Co-Op.

The new pattern has a blue base which was created by Disney Design Group’s Patty Landing and the Vera Bradley team. You might remember Landing from when she asked guests for their vote on the 2014 art design to use on cups, t-shirts, hats, and more. The pattern features Mickey and Minnie “dreaming” of fun in a field of purple, gold, and turquoise flowers. Prices start at $15 and grow depending on the style of bag purchased.

Even though I absolutely love this pattern and color scheme, I am a bit disappointed in the character choice on it. Mickey and Minnie have appeared – in one way or another – on every Vera released thus far – and quite frankly, it’s time to change it up a bit. In fact, I truly think that the pattern lends itself to a Frozen themed bag. The now infamous attire of Anna and its Norwegian-inspired rosemaling (the intricate decorative designs found on her dress and throughout the kingdom of Arendelle) lend itself to this pattern. It would be nice to see silhouettes of her and Elsa on the bag and maybe even a hidden Olaf at random.

LeSportsac

Harley Jessup, production designer of Pixar’s Ratatouille, Monsters, Inc., and Cars 2, created award-winning films that appeal to both children and adults alike. Designing worlds that were exciting to the eye and filled with lovable characters allowed him to transport viewers into his films. With the new Disney Pixar collection for LeSportsac, you can show your appreciation for Jessup by sporting a bag with some of his exclusive concept artwork on it.

Available in handbags, totes, backpacks, and travel bags, the new collection arrives just in time for the Halloween season and features drawings Jessup used when brainstorming for his films. I love the bright colors and how “rough” the sketches look on the black base of each bag. They would be fun to carry in the parks or around town on the weekend. Bags range in prices from $25-$166.

LeSportsac Monster (600x593)

You can find these bags at Tren-D in Downtown Disney. Note though that they are not always carried in large amounts. If you’re in love with a certain style of pattern, consider shopping on LeSportsac’s website for the best selection.

Well, that’s our round up of the latest bags for Disney fans. I hope you enjoyed taking a look at what is being offered. Which one did you like best? Post your thoughts in the comments section below!

Thank you for the review. Harvey Bags weren’t mentioned however. Are there any new Disney designs from Harvey?

There are…faces of the Fab Five…called “BFF.” I saw a post somewhere…the images were from Disney California Adventure at the beginning of September. I’m hoping this pattern makes its way to WDW by mid-October when I’ll be there!

I would like to see a Vera Spring Collection possibly featuring spring like characters such as Winnie the Pooh and Friends, Tinkerbell and then do others seasonally. Endless possibilities.
