Don't forget to take some time to look at the little things.
One of the most unique things about Disneyland Resort in California is the fact that both theme parks and Downtown Disney are located so close together. As someone who grew up around Walt Disney World, the notion of walking from Disneyland Park to California Adventure and then through Downtown Disney just seemed so bizarre since it would take five days and a sherpa to do the same in Orlando.
If you’re staying on property or at one of the nearby hotels, it’s very likely that you’ll need to walk through Downtown Disney in order to get to the theme parks during the day, and again to get back to your resort after a long day. This is the perfect time to take in some of the unique shopping and dining experiences.
However if you’re like me, part of the fun is just taking a look at the sites that surround you and on my recent trip, I was not disappointed to discover some of the most beautifully designed window displays at the World of Disney store at the far end Downtown Disney (closest to the theme parks).
Each of the windows contains large-scale illustration displays that feature different scenes from Disneyland Park and California Adventure. Each scene features animated, moving parts and lighting effects that add so much dimension to the displays. While they are absolutely beautiful during the day, I have to recommend admiring them at night as you leave the park. That’s exactly what we did as we left Mickey’s Halloween Party at one in the morning.
I think one of the things that appeals to me most about the displays is the illustration style used. I haven’t been able to track down the artist or artists that worked on them, but they remind me so much of the standard vintage travel posters and their beautiful flat, yet rich designs. The displays look so classic and fit so perfectly in the windows leading up to the parks. I hope they stick around for a while!
