A Video Tribute to Maelstrom

One of the biggest news stories of the year at Walt Disney World has definitely been the closure of Maelstrom, the staple attraction of the Norway Pavilion in the World Showcase of Epcot. Fans are split on whether it’s a good or bad decision to close such a beloved, but outdated attraction in favor for the new Frozen-themed boat ride that will go in its place. Although the hysteria surrounding Frozen is starting to die down, the wait times to meet Anna and Elsa are still incredibly high and families couldn’t get enough of Frozen Summer Fun at Disney’s Hollywood Studios to the point that the “For the First Time in Forever: A Frozen Sing-Along Celebration” stage show has extended its run. Regardless of how you feel about Frozen taking over the Norway Pavilion even more than it already has, it is happening and the best thing Maelstrom fans can do now is sit back and remember the attraction for what it was. Take a look at our video tribute to Maelstrom and let us know your favorite memory of the attraction or what you think about its closure!

The whole ride was great, but my favorite part was the video in the end. Always loved EPCOT when it first came out as “educational” but then they started making World Showcase more of a kid attraction. for example when they changed the Mexico ride into one that includes The Three Cabaleros. Wish they would have left World Showcase more of an adult park but change is always good I guess

I’m like Tom. I loved the video and we would sit and watch it each and every time we rode the ride. Maelstrom has been here for over 25 years (?) and it always had a good number of people standing in line to ride it. How long is this new Frozen ride going to last? I’d bet money it won’t last nearly as long.

Don’t get me started on The Three Cabaleros in Mexico. Another Disney blunder.

  • Not a fan of change

If they ever get rid of Splash Mountain, GRRRRRRRRRRRRR !!! I also love the movie in France, “Le Impressions de France”….the music is divine…but they will replace that someday too.

Outdated? No! Quaint and picturesque? Absolutely! Will miss this greatly as it’s always been a favorite and a must-do while in the World Showcase.

Great job with the videos of Maelstrom. At least we will have those to remember it by.
