The snow may be falling outside, but things are definitely heating up in the shops at Walt Disney World. New merchandise for the holidays is popping up on the shelves regularly, much to the joy of fans. Unlike years past, designers have created a unique collection that builds off of the popularity of Downtown Disney’s Marketplace Co-Op and its vintage-style park merchandise. This holiday season, you will find plenty of goodies for your loved ones and just maybe something special for you too.
Back in June, the Marketplace Co-Op opened its doors and wowed fans with various items in Disney Centerpiece, a department within the store that features old school Disneyana. Everything from pillows to mugs to plates showed off the famous icons of the parks. Because the merchandise has become so popular, it is no surprise to see such vintage style on this year’s Christmas collection. Mickey, Minnie, and Tinker Bell are the stars and drawn in retro colors and lines that are both fun and cute to display.
For the kitchen, you’ll enjoy sweet aprons and pot holders decorated by images of festive Mickey head ornaments and stars. I love the look of the mixed patterns. They remind me of the 50s Prime Time Cafe over at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. You’ll also find dishes with the same design and others that coordinate but instead feature large images of the characters. One of my favorites is this darling Cookies and Milk for Santa set that includes both a dessert dish and mug for the big man himself.
For the living room, consider picking up one of these precious throw pillows. My favorite is the Mickey version which wishes your guests a “Happy Holidays,” while Tink asks that infamous question, “Naughty or Nice?” Matching stockings, tree skirts, nutcrackers, serving trays and utensils, puzzles, and even Christmas cards are also available. Likewise, this year’s holiday afghan fits right in with the theme and would be perfect during those chilly winter nights.
Of course, the ultimate item to deck the halls is that special ornament for your Christmas tree. The holiday vintage collection features a wide variety of styles, so it will be difficult to pick just one. You’ll find character figures as well as more traditional orbs with that special Disney touch. As a Tinker Bell fan myself, I most appreciate the matching tree topper which lights up a glittery path atop your tree.
I hope that you have enjoyed taking a look at this year’s holiday collection. You can find these items at various shops around Walt Disney World including The Emporium in Magic Kingdom and World of Disney in Downtown Disney. Similarly, a select amount is available online. Happy shopping!
