Star Wars Weekend Merchandise Hits the Shelves

| May 16, 2015 | Reply

All things from space and beyond have hit the Disney galaxy with the opening of Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. There are unique parades, Facetime with your favorite characters, and even celebrity sightings. The theme park chefs have even gotten in on the action by creating cosmic breakfasts at Sci-Fi Dine-In and sweet treats in quick service eateries. Just when you think the event couldn’t get any better, Disney Design Group has released a multitude of intergalactic goodies that are sure to please any fan.

Star Wars has been a presence in Disney merchandise for some time now, but it really comes to fruition during each event weekend from May 15 to June 14. Most of the items can be found in Darth’s Mall, an exclusive shopping venue that recently expanded to a location near the Streets of America, but you can also purchase them at select shops and kiosks scattered around Hollywood Studios. There the whole family will find exclusive collectibles and commemorative apparel for adults and children alike.

This year you will find quite a few limited edition items including pin sets and lanyard medals. These products are limited to a specific production number, so be sure to grab yours when you see it as purchasing the item later in the day might not be an option. There’s even a mystery pin set starring droids of every kind and a surprise “chaser” with an edition size of 200.

My personal favorite is this helmets pin set featuring six sculpted pins to give a 3-D effect. The helmets are from classic Star Wars films and the character favorites in them: Stormtrooper, Darth Vader, Imperial Guard, Lando Calrissian, Boba Fett, and Princess Leia. The edition size is only 1000 and bound to be popular at this year’s event.

In addition to pins, you’ll also have the opportunity to purchase autographed photos from Star Wars celebrities. This includes the special guests who visit Hollywood Studios for event activities. As you can imagine, the prices of these collectibles can get a bit high, but are worth it to the hardcore fans out there. Photo protective sheets and tubes are available to help preserve the items while you remain in the park and for when you display them at home.

Now that Disney owns Lucasfilm, the merging of the two character worlds has become more and more popular. At Star Wars Weekends, you’ll find Mickey and his trusty lightsaber just about everywhere including on T-shirts, park maps, and even MagicBands. I think that this is tastefully done and doesn’t hurt either of the two entities. It’s fun to see Mickey and friends dressed in different costumes for the event.

Star Wars Weekends wouldn’t be complete without some fun clothing that you can sport in the park and at home. T-shirts, dresses, tank tops, and purses fill the racks and feature a variety of logos and character motifs. You’ll also find a limited stock of the new Dooney & Bourke exclusive made for this year’s event.
